Brier Creek
Your complete guide to Brier Creek: northwest Raleigh’s planned community at the Durham County line, ten minutes from both RDU and Research Triangle Park, with a country club, townhomes and the Brier Creek Commons retail district.

Neighborhood Overview: Brier Creek homes for sale
Brier Creek is a 2,000-acre planned community in the far northwest corner of Raleigh, where Glenwood Avenue (US-70) meets I-540 and the Durham County line. It was built almost entirely between 1999 and 2015, which gives it a consistency most Raleigh neighborhoods lack: the Arnold Palmer-designed golf course and country club at the center, single-family neighborhoods around it, and rings of townhomes, condos and apartments toward the retail at Brier Creek Commons. The commercial side is unusually complete for a residential area, with a Target, Harris Teeter, dozens of restaurants, medical offices and the Alexander Place center across Glenwood.
Brier Creek’s appeal is the commute. It is closer to RDU and Research Triangle Park than almost any other Raleigh address, which is why it draws so many relocation buyers in the first year and so many RTP and airport-area employees after that. The buyers we see here want a newer, low-maintenance home with amenities, do not need to be inside the Beltline, and value being 10 minutes from the airport over being 10 minutes from downtown. The trade-off is that it is a suburban, car-first community at the city’s edge, and it feels that way.
Home Price Ranges
Brier Creek has one of the widest price bands in north Raleigh. Condos at the Cottages at Brier Creek, Alexander Place and the buildings near the Commons start around $300K; townhomes in the neighborhoods off ACC Boulevard and Brier Creek Parkway trade from $375K to $550K; single-family homes in the non-golf neighborhoods run $550K to $800K; and the golf-course and estate lots inside Brier Creek Country Club sell from $800K to $1.2M and above. Published medians for the area as a whole sit in the mid-$400Ks because townhomes and condos make up a large share of sales. Golf frontage, garage count and the specific sub-neighborhood drive the spread. Median price and days on market above reflect the trailing 12 months of Triangle MLS closed sales.
Lifestyle & Community
Daily life in Brier Creek happens within the community: the club, the pools, the Commons and the parks and trails woven through the neighborhoods. Umstead State Park, the largest natural area in the Triangle, is one exit south.
- Brier Creek Country Club — the Arnold Palmer Signature golf course, tennis, pools and a clubhouse restaurant, with memberships open to residents of the surrounding neighborhoods
- Brier Creek Commons & Alexander Place — the two retail districts with Target, Harris Teeter, Regal cinema, and restaurants from Bad Daddy’s and Zinda to Bonefish Grill
- William B. Umstead State Park — 5,600 acres of hiking, mountain-bike and bridle trails at the Glenwood Avenue entrance, 5 minutes south
- Brier Creek Community Center & Park — the City of Raleigh center on Globe Road with a gym and fitness room, next to the athletic fields at Brier Creek Park, plus the neighborhood greenway loops
Schools & Education
Brier Creek is served by the Wake County Public School System. Most addresses assign to Brier Creek Elementary, which sits inside the community, Pine Hollow Middle on the north side of the neighborhood, and Leesville Road High, one of the larger and more established high schools in northwest Raleigh. Some addresses on the edges assign to Leesville Road Elementary and Middle. Wake’s year-round and magnet options are available by application, and the Montessori School of Raleigh has a campus in Brier Creek. Assignment is by address and can change at the community’s edges, so we confirm the current assignment for any specific home before you write an offer.
Getting Around
Brier Creek sits at the Glenwood Avenue and I-540 interchange. RDU airport is 7 to 10 minutes, Research Triangle Park 12 to 15 on I-540 or Glenwood, downtown Durham about 20, and downtown Raleigh 20 to 25 on Glenwood or I-540 to I-440. North Hills is 15 minutes and Cary about 20 via I-540 and I-40. Almost every errand can be run inside the community, but the neighborhood is car-dependent for everything else. GoRaleigh’s Route 70X express connects Brier Creek to downtown Raleigh.
Nearby New Construction
Brier Creek itself is essentially built out; what remains is townhome and condo infill on the last parcels along ACC Boulevard, Brier Creek Parkway and the Glenwood frontage. The new single-family communities Brier Creek buyers cross-shop sit just over the county line in Durham along NC-98, US-70 and the T.W. Alexander corridor, including Brightleaf at the Park and the newer phases around it, and north along Leesville Road and NC-50 toward Wake Forest. Those communities typically offer a comparable new home for less per square foot, 10 to 15 minutes further from RDU. See our Triangle new-construction builder pages.
